    Our patented complexity calculation engine accurately calculates the complexity, or difficulty level, of any current or future IC project and expresses it in terms of “industry norm effort.” It comprises a suite of models calibrated with more than 1,600 IC projects and 30,000 circuit blocks that allow any chip’s complexity to be normalized and its design difficulty quantified – from concept to release to production – given its specific technical characteristics and application. The engine normalizes several dozen factors and expresses chip complexity in units that enable comparison between current and prior IC projects. The engine is calibrated with data from multiple process technology nodes and supports design styles including SoC, RF and analog, mixed-signal, ASIC, ASSP, and advanced processors. Learn more.

    NMX IC Industry Database: Unique in the World

    Our IC Industry Database is composed of more than 1,600 benchmarked IC projects compiled from over 75 semiconductor companies and covers more than 22 application market segments. The large number of categories allows engineering managers to precisely calibrate project plans and benchmark IC development capability. Major categories include wireless communications, computers, entertainment products, industrial products, wired communications, computer system peripherals, and transportation.

    Having access to a large sample of industry projects in a particular subcategory provides a powerful aid for IC project planning and schedule risk analysis. For example, after normalizing for complexity differences, which Numetrics’ patented complexity calculation engine performs automatically, users can calibrate project plans against industry norms to validate schedule and staffing assumptions.     Project Plan Synthesis Engine: Unique in the World

    Numetrics’ Project Plan Synthesis technology leverages its patented design complexity calculation engine and IC Industry Database. The synthesis technology is the nucleus of Numetrics’ IC Project Planner and Schedule Risk Analyzer products. Using parameters such as process node, frequency target and voltage, together with an estimate of the chip’s gate count, memory, analog content, I/O count and reuse levels, IC Project Planner automatically generates estimates of project duration and staffing requirements. The estimates facilitate the critical trade-off decisions facing engineering managers planning new IC projects: cycle time vs. staffing-level vs. chip complexity.

    Numetrics’ synthesis technology is embedded in IC Project Planner, which generates a detailed estimate of staffing requirements by type of activity for a new project.
