Latest News and EventsNumetrics' Announces Search Engine for IC Industry Database Cupertino, Calif., May 21, 2007 Numetrics Management Systems, Inc today announced the addition of a project search engine to the Numetrics NMX IC Industry Database™ product. In use by companies throughout the semiconductor industry, the Database comprises nearly 1,200 projects representing more than 20 application segments from over 30 semiconductor companies. When activated, the NMX Project Search Engine™ searches the Database and identifies those projects whose characteristics most closely match the profile specified by the user. The engine allows IC managers to quickly identify projects that can serve as references for calibrating new project plans and benchmarking completed projects. Users can apply the Search Engine to both their own portfolio of projects and the Industry Database. "This is an indispensable tool for quickly determining staffing needs and schedules for new projects based on historical data," said Steve Gary, Numetrics' vice president of product marketing and professional services. "Well before detailed bottom-up plans are available, users can identify projects of similar complexity and application that collectively reveal the industry norms for productivity, staffing, project duration and milestone interval times." Before utilizing the Search Engine, users activate an initial search of the Database by specifying a specific profile of the target projects they want. These projects comprise the pool into which the Search Engine delves to refine and narrow the search. The user then specifies the maximum number of projects the Search Engine should return. Lastly, users can either manually specify the search criteria parameters or instruct the Engine to automatically extract them from an existing project. Examples include team size, design complexity and project staffing contour, all of which are important parameters that determine similarity; weighting factors can be applied to treat selected parameters as more important than others. When users apply the Search Engine to only their own portfolio of projects, the tool lists the name of each project, ordered from least similar to most similar. The results are available in Numetrics' data mining tool, NMX Insight™, which is used to diagnose causes of low productivity and other chip development problems.
