Numetrics Announces seamless flow between NMX QuickStart™ AND NMX Project Planner™

New Feature Allows IC Planners to Estimate Chip Development Project Complexity in Minutes

Cupertino, Calif., February 28, 2007 — Numetrics Management Systems, Inc., the leading provider of project planning tools to the semiconductor industry, announced a powerful new capability that provides a seamless flow between NMX QuickStart™ and NMX Project Planner™. With the integrated QuickStart-to-Planner solution, project managers need only input a very limited amount of chip description information, which is commonly available in the early stages of a project, to generate a preliminary estimate of the IC project’s duration and staffing-level requirements. Engineering managers typically spend no more than 15 to 20 minutes to get initial project plan results.

"SoC project teams frequently miss their schedules by wide margins due to the difficulty of determining chip design complexity," said Steve Gary, vice president of product marketing and professional services at Numetrics. "Engineering managers get tremendous leverage from the QuickStart-to-Planner flow because of the minimal effort required to generate initial schedule and staffing estimates."

NMX QuickStart brings a high level of confidence into the planning process at the very early stages of the project. The solution delivers a quantitative assessment of the complexity of the chip design, as well as a reliable initial estimate of the schedule and corresponding staffing requirements needed to meet the desired target market window.

Inputs to NMX QuickStart are those factors having the greatest impact on chip development effort. Project and design managers enter parameters such as process node, frequency target and voltage, together with an estimate of the chip’s gate count, memory, analog content, I/O count and reuse levels. This information is processed by the NMX QuickStart complexity calculation engine and then automatically passed to NMX Project Planner, which generates estimates of project duration and staffing requirements.

The early estimates that the QuickStart-to-Planner solution generates facilitate the critical trade-off decisions facing project managers: Cycle time vs. Staffing-level vs. Chip complexity. The solution also provides for rapid generation of Request-for-Quote responses. Initial input and results can be progressively refined as more detail becomes available during the planning process.
